Making Baby Food

Making baby food is not as hard as you think. You don't need elaborate recipes or fancy tools. In fact, with a little extra planning, you'll find it's easy to make your own baby food right along with your family's regular meals.

So get ready!

Here are some simple steps to making baby food that is nutritious and taste great.

What you'll need:

A Steamer

Boiling baby food or any food for that matter can take away precious nutrients that the body needs. Instead steam your food. It's a fairly quick process and it leaves the nutritional value of foods intact. Also, depending on the size, steamers can be fairly inexpensive.

A Food Processor

You don't need an official baby food processor. A regular food processor will do just fine. Some people have tried making baby food with a regular blender, but the results are messy and food is often still lumpy. A food processor results in a smoother, more consistent and therefore safer texture for baby to eat.

Ice Cube trays and Freezer Bags

Your time is precious. So to avoid having to prepare baby food everyday, consider freezing. Ice cube trays are a great way to store food and make convenient portion sizes. When you need to serve them, you can just pop out a cube and warm in the microwave in not time.

Baby Food Grinder

This is typically a small portable device than can be used on the go to grind up table food into a proper size and texture for baby.

Step 1

Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables before cutting them up into small pieces. If you want to save some time, you can always buy some prepared food from the store like baby carrots although this might cost a bit more money. Step 2

It's time to cook the food. If you are preparing vegetables, steam them. If you are cooking a meat or pasta, cook as you normally would without adding your normal spices. Note: if you are cooking for the entire family, you can separate baby's portion in the beginning and cook separately without the spices or just cook for everyone and add the family's spices to their dishes at the end.

Step 3

Once all of the food is properly cooked, you can start processing it for baby. Put the foods separately into the food processor. Depending on the food, you may need to add a small bit of water. Process each food until it reaches the proper consistently which is typically like that you'd expect from a store-bought baby food.

Step 4

The food is ready to eat or store. If you are planning to store it, pour it into the ice cube trays. Once the cubes are frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe bag and label appropriately.

Congratulations on making your own baby food!

When you are ready to serve for your next meal, simply take the correct number of cubes from the freezer and warm in the microwave. If you don't use microwaves, you can heat the food on the stove. Just be sure to warm it up and not cook it.

With just a small amount of work, making baby food can be a breeze and the benefits are many. So go ahead and give it a try!
