Homemade Cleaning Options

Have you considered homemade cleaning options for your home?

Like many parents, you want a clean, sanitary home for your family, but what if you don't want to purchase chemical-laden, store-bought cleaners?

What other options do you have?

You can make your own earth friendly cleaning products!

They're easy to make and are very effective cleaners. The internet is full of "recipes" using every day items such as hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar, and baking soda that are combined in different ways to make great earth friendly cleaning products for your home.

To boost cleaning power and add scent, eco-friendly oils such as pine, tea tree and thyme can be used in many natural cleaning solutions. You can purchase these essential oils and other natural cleaning items from various sources online as well as at many local health food stores.

By making your own natural cleaning products, you'll be able to control the ingredients and therefore decrease the amount of chemicals and toxins in your home.

Vinegar is an amazing product that has many great uses. Click here to learn more about all natural cleaning options for vinegar.

Recipe for All Natural Cleaning Solution

To make this all-purpose homemade cleaning solution, combine two tablespoons of borax (easily found in the laundry aisle of any grocery store) and one-fourth cup of lemon juice and two cups of hot water in a spray bottle. Cover the bottle and shake until the borax is dissolved. Add twenty drops of either tea tree oil or thyme essential oil. Shake again and then use as you would any commercial product. Note: Borax is a natural mineral with multiple cleaning properties.

Recipe for Natural Cleaning Disinfectant

Mix two cups of white distilled vinegar with three drops of tea tree, thyme, eucalyptus, or pine essential oils. Spray in the toilet then clean as usual.

Baking Soda

As a generic cleaner, mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste. Use to clean surfaces then wipe clean. Baking Soda is also an excellent odor remover. Sprinkle some in your litter box to control odor, use on your carpet before vacuuming to absorb odors or put some in a dish in your fridge to remove food odors.

Note:When making your own all natural cleaning products, please make sure to label your bottles and store them in a safe location out of reach of your children. Be sure to never mix ammonia and chlorine bleach! Combined the two are very toxic and dangerous.

Times are changing.

As more companies become concerned about environmental issues, we may find more green cleaning options available for purchase in our local grocery stores. While the convenience can be nice, homemade cleaners and disinfectants can be just as effective and much cheaper.
