Baby Nursery Design
Tips for Moms and Dads
As parents-to-be focus on baby nursery design, they typically consider a variety of baby nursery ideas and themes, select a color scheme and then make decisions on furniture, bedding and more. Their focus is typically solely on their baby as they lovingly go about creating his or her nursery.
But moms and dads need to remember that they will be spending a lot of time in the nursery as well. Making smart decisions about baby nursery design on the front-end will go a long way toward creating a functional space for parents to enjoy with their babies.
Baby Nursery Decorating Ideas
To maximize Mom and Dad's comfort while caring for baby, consider the items below:
A Nursery Rocking chair
Babies love to be rocked. A rocking chair or nursery glider can be a major purchase. As you shop, be sure to test chairs and gliders for comfort. Spend a few moments to see how they feel. Imagine hanging out in the chair rocking your baby or nursing. Is your back supported? Is their sufficient padding?
Also, check the rocking mechanism to be sure that it is enclosed to avoid little fingers getting pinched. Before you know it your newborn will be a crawler with little hands that can reach into small spaces so safety is important.
As with all furniture for the nursery, consider an eco-friendly natural-wood chair that does not have a toxic finish.
Nursery Changing Tables
You may be thinking about purchasing a nursery changing table or a dresser with a changing table attachment. Remember that you will be changing a lot of diapers so it's important that the table is at the proper height. Try standing in front of it and bending your arms at a ninety-degree angle. The top of the changing area should be just below your arms.
Nursery Lamps/Lighting
Of course you will most likely have general overhead lighting in the nursery. For night-time feedings and quiet time with your baby, you may want to add a nursery lamp for more gentle lighting. This will help keep late-night disturbances at a minimum and help your child get back to sleep faster.
Blankets or Throws
In addition to baby blankets, it's a great idea to have a larger blanket or afghan in the room for Mom and Dad to use while snuggling with the baby.
A Small Refrigerator
A dorm-size fridge is a great place to keep drinks and snacks in it handy for parents. Once your baby reaches the crawling stage, it will have to be removed for safety reasons. But, in the meantime, parents can rock baby, and grab a nice snack if needed.
Music
Having a CD player or radio in the nursery can be beneficial to both the baby and mom. Listen to soothing music when you are trying to calm baby or something more upbeat when baby is awake and you want some playtime.
These tips for Moms and Dads are meant to enhance the quality of the time you spend with your child. Great baby nursery design should factor in everyone's comfort. The result will be a wonderful space the whole family can enjoy.
