Baby Nursery Decorating - Tips on Saving Money

Baby nursery decorating on a budget has never been more in vogue than in today's economy. As more and more families are affected by falling home values, job cuts and portfolio losses, they are putting every area of their spending under scrutiny.

But if you are pregnant, there are many expenses you will incur to get ready for your new baby. One of the largest, of course, is decorating the nursery. Preparing the nursery, although fun, can be quite frustrating. The mom on a budget not only has to make every penny count, but she also has to determine when to invest more, and when to invest less.

Second-Hand Buying

Eco-friendly principles such as reduce, re-use and re-cycle can be adopted as you look for ways to save money. Consider what items you may be able to get second-hand. Accessories such as blankets, sheets, lamps, and figurines may be good candidates for this.

To start, ask family and friends who've recently had babies if they have any items they'd like to get rid of. Next, check out your local yard sales, and thrift stores. You might also consider checking eBay as well. Oftentimes, people sell items that are in good condition for great prices on eBay.

Exercise more caution; however, with items such as cribs, mattresses, and car seats. Safety is of the utmost importance and you don't want to purchase something with wear-and-tear that might ultimately be harmful to your child.

As you work on your baby nursery decorating plan, talk to other moms about their experiences with their babies. We often overspend and buy things we think we need, but never end up using. By speaking with other moms you can get a sense of what is crucial to have and what you may be able to do without.

Baby Nursery Wallpaper

There are so many options for decorating the walls of the nursery, and the possibilities are endless. Today, there are even eco-friendly baby nursery wallpapers! However, wall papering the entire wall is much more expensive than painting. One less expensive alternative is to choose a room border instead. A border can help set the theme of the nursery and add color.

Baby Nursery Paint

Painting the wall is a more budget-friendly option than wallpapering. Before you purchase any paint, it's a good idea to seek the advice a professional. You may have a tendency to save money by purchasing cheaper paint. However, a cheap paint will become more expensive in the long-run if you have to use a lot of coats or repaint frequently to cover wear and tear.

Also, note that traditional paints can contain chemicals that leech into the air. Look for low-voc or zero-voc paint to use when baby nursery decorating. They are much less toxic than their traditional counterparts and are therefore safer for your baby and the environment.

Eco friendly Flooring

The floors in your nursery have the potential to be expensive. Laying carpet is an option many people consider, but carpet may not fit into a tight budget or be the best eco-friendly option. Natural area rugs offer a great alternative to carpeting.

Every new parent desires the perfect nursery for their new baby. The frugal shopper generally can't afford to purchase everything new, but that does not have to limit their ability to create an adorable room. Investing a little time and patience while shopping for your items will pay off in the end. Believe it or not, baby nursery decorating can be done with an environmentally-conscious, budget-oriented mindset. It's still possible to create a wonderful, unique space for your baby.
